History Center Services
The History Center has reference and reading areas, an online catalog, current periodicals, large worktables, a microfilm reader, and access to audiovisual equipment. Any staff member can retrieve research materials from the stacks for use in the reading room. An exhibit gallery adjacent to the reading room serves to display rotating exhibits of Outer Banks history and culture.
Reference Services
The History Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday except on holidays and during severe weather conditions. The staff is available during normal operating hours to assist with research and to retrieve stack materials. You may contact staff in person, by mail, e-mail, fax, and telephone.

Reproduction Services
The History Center provides in-house photocopy and photographic reproduction services. Some holdings are subject to restrictions due to preservation concerns or require donor permission before being copied. For a rate sheet for both photocopies and photographic copies, please refer to the Reproduction Fees (PDF).
Education and Outreach Services
The Outer Banks History Center is an active resource for the community and region. The staff conducts historical, genealogical, and cultural programs and activities regularly. The staff is also available to address classes and community and civic groups on a variety of historical and cultural topics. The History Center maintains an ongoing exhibit program and collects oral histories documenting the Outer Banks. Call the History Center (252-473-2655) for more information about any of these programs.
